SPF & PA: What's the Difference?
UV rays are one of the main causes of premature skin aging and sun damage. UVB rays are responsible for sunburn, while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and contribute to wrinkles, dark spots, and photoaging.
UVA rays are present all year round and can penetrate clouds and window glass. This means your skin is exposed not only outdoors, but also while driving or sitting near a window.
SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures protection against UVB rays. The higher the SPF, the greater the protection from sunburn.
PA measures protection against UVA rays and is indicated by plus signs:
- PA+ = Moderate UVA protection
- PA++ = High UVA protection
- PA+++ = Very high UVA protection
- PA++++ = Extremely high UVA protection
For comprehensive daily protection, choose a sunscreen that offers both a high SPF and broad-spectrum UVA protection.
